How to open a trade printer account as a home-based shop
Trade-only printers only sell to businesses that resell print. No printer in our directory says outright whether it accepts home-based shops, so this guide covers what each one says it asks for, plus what shop owners have reported on Signs101.
What printers say they ask for
| Printer | Account requirements (from the printer's site) |
|---|---|
| 4over | Reseller certificate required; verified via multi-step process and re-verified annually |
| SinaLite | Free account; registrations reviewed, only printers and print resellers approved |
| FireSprint | 'Become a Reseller' application |
| Signs2Trade | Must register and confirm business details; sells only to companies in sign, printing, promo products and graphic design industries |
| B2Sign | Account application; California customers must submit a California resale certificate/permit |
| PrintTrader | Apply for access; trade-only accounts, no setup fees |
| SignMaster | Create an account |
| SignTeam | Registration; no account needed to get a quote |
| Dupli-Systems / TradePrintNOW | Register online or by phone; credit available for printers, agencies and brokers |
| ND4C (Next Day Four Color) | Reseller certificate form (state registration, seller's permit or ID number); street address required, no P.O. boxes; verification up to 1 business day |
| Ultradotmedia | Apply for vendor account |
| YouSendWePrint | Wholesale permit or business license required (plus Florida resale certificate if in Florida) |
| VistaCraft | Contact for trade quote |
| WrapPrinting.com (Ardor Printing) | Approved trade accounts: wrap shops, sign shops, installers, trade resellers; most approved same business day |
| Titan Vinyl Graphics | Apply with business info and resale certificate; trade accounts free |
| Wholesale Signs Plus | Valid reseller certificate required |
| Digi Printing & Cutting | Apply for a trade account |
| Orbus | Dealer application; state reseller certificate emailed to Orbus (orders taxed if not on file) |
| Gemini | Sold exclusively through authorized resellers |
| Signs365 | Trade-only application: 'Please enter your trade information. We will review your application' (quoted on Signs101). Forum users report being asked for a resale license and proof of business, and some were declined after a Google Street View check found no visible signage. |
What forum members report
- In "Need reliable trade printer (not 4over)" and "Banner Wholesalers", members say Signs365 at first declined their applications because Google Street View showed no visible signage at their location. One says the account was set up after that.
- In "Best place for high-quality banners?", one member suggests a published business website and an email address on your own domain (not Gmail) help with approval. They add that a home-based member uses Signs365.
- The same thread says trade printers may ask for a resale license and proof of what your company does.
Checklist based on the requirements above
- Resale or reseller certificate for your state (asked for by 4over, ND4C, Titan Vinyl Graphics, and B2Sign for California customers).
- Business license or wholesale permit (YouSendWePrint).
- A street address. ND4C says no P.O. boxes.
- A business website and an email address on your own domain (forum advice, not a stated requirement).
